Every once in a while, a single sentence reshapes the way you think. During a recent workshop I attended, one line stood out more than anything else.

“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”

It is a familiar quote, but in the context of this session it resonated differently. This year has been a blend of clarity and uncertainty, momentum and recalibration, ambition and restraint. Building Between Talks, shaping my consulting career, entering new rooms and new conversations, all of it has required a deeper level of strategy. Not the rigid kind. The lived kind.

Before I go further, I want to give credit where its due. These reflections are inspired by Developing a Strategic Mindset, a workshop created and delivered through the Monday Girl platform. This is not sponsored. It is simply a space where I have gained real value. Since joining Monday Girl, I have been exposed to voices, ideas and opportunities that have genuinely expanded my world. This workshop was one of those moments.

The first reminder was simple but grounding. Strategy evolves as you do. Plans shift as new information arrives. Every event I attend, every founder conversation, every consulting challenge and every post I write for this platform shapes the direction I am moving in. Instead of chasing the perfect roadmap, the real progress comes from staying adaptable and refining your approach in real time.

Another idea that stayed with me was the importance of becoming comfortable with difficult decisions. Strategy demands clarity about what matters and what does not, and with that clarity often comes discomfort. Whether I am navigating a project at work or choosing how to grow Between Talks, I have seen how essential it is to make choices with intention rather than fear. Saying no, in many cases, is what protects the long term vision.

A powerful reframe of failure. Failure is not a detour. It is information. When something does not unfold as planned, it becomes data that guides your next step. I have noticed this pattern in founders at pitch nights and leaders across the biotech space. The ones who grow are the ones who treat setbacks as insight, not as a verdict on their potential.

What resonated most was the reminder that strategic thinking is really about making the right connections. Connections between ideas. Connections between people. Connections between what you want and what the world is showing you. It mirrors what I try to capture on this platform. Between Talks has always been about noticing the threads between conversations, industries and lessons and understanding how they shape the way we move forward.

A clear five step process was shared that applies equally to career decisions, business strategy and personal clarity. First, define the problem honestly. Then take responsibility for your role in solving it. From there, build a plan with clear goals and practical steps, communicate it to the people who need to be involved and follow through while staying open to refinement. Strategy becomes real only through action.

The most grounding idea was the reminder that strategic thinking is not something you reach for only during intense moments. It is a daily practice. It shows up in how you prioritize your time, where you direct your attention, which opportunities you choose to engage with and how you position yourself in new environments. When you approach your days with this mindset, life begins to feel more intentional and less reactive.

I left the session with a stronger sense of clarity. Not urgency or pressure. Clarity. Clarity about the direction I want this platform to grow. Clarity about the professional I am becoming. Clarity about how vision and action must support each other. If there is one idea I am carrying with me, it is that strategy is the bridge that brings those two forces into harmony.
